Welcome to the pages of the German Purine Club

Nucleotides including ATP, ADP, UTP and UDP, the nucleoside adenosine and more recently also the nucleobase adenine not only play a multifaceted and central role in intracellular metabolism. They also are among the most ubiquitous intercellular signal substances in animal and human organisms.

They are involved in the regulation of a vast number of physiological and pathophysiological processes. They exert their functions via a multiplicity of cell surface-located receptors. The German Purine Club is devoted to the study of this fascinating new filed of science.

Geoffrey Burnstock Honoraray Member of the German Purine Club

At the international Conference Purines 2014 in Juli 2014 in Bonn Honorary Membership of the German Purine Club was awarded to Prof. Geoffrey Burnstock (University College London). Geoffrey Burnstock is the founder father of the scientific concept of intercellular signaling via ATP and other nucleotides. Honorary membership was awarded to him for his lifelong fundamental contributions to the field and his continued support for scientists working in the field of purinergic signaling in Germany and worldwide.

GERMAN PURINE CLUB AWARD to Prof. Alexei Verkhratsky

At the occasion of the meeting of the German Purine Club at PURINES 2012 in Fukuoka, Japan, for the first time the GERMAN PURINE CLUB AWARD was awarded. The awardee is Alexei Verkhratsky, Professor of Neurophysiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, The University of Manchester, UK. He received the prize for his fundamental investigations on the mechanism of purinergic signalling.

Purines 2014 in Bonn

From July 23 to 27, 2014 the University of Bonn hosted the international conference Purines 2014 - Nucleotides, nucleosides and nucleobases – International Conference on Signalling, Drugs and Targets. Over 550 delegates participated in the conference. Seven plenary lectures, 44 symposia and over 200 posters covered the entire field of purinergic signaling. The meeting was very successful. The chairpersons (Prof. Christa Müller, Herbert Zimmermann), the coordinator (PD Dr. Anke Schiedel) und especially also the team responsible for the technical organization received many cordial thanks.
